I’m hearing from many of our patrons, young and old, that the summer (and the year) is flying by. Here at the library, we’re feeling the same way. Over 70 youth signed up for the summer reading program this year and finished out the program with a party at Shoshone Park. There were games, food, and of course books.

Dewey, the library’s bookmobile, currently has three established routes. On Tuesdays after stopping at the Ignacio Early Learning Program, Dewey heads North on Highway 172 and stops at the Cowboy Church Preschool, Oxford Grange, and the Pine River Baptist Church. On Wednesdays, it goes out to Tara Community Center, the Spring Creek Grange, and back into town at the Quichas Apartments. Then on Thursdays, we are at Cedar Point West, Boys and Girls Club of the Southern Ute Tribe at the park behind the SunUte Recreation Center, and Meadowbrook Mobile Home Park.

For more information about Dewey’s times and locations check out the library’s website or give us a call. And when you see Dewey out and about, stop in, say “Hi, ” and check out some of our materials. There’s something for everyone on the bookmobile! Plus, if you call ahead, we can have holds items ready for you to pick up at any of these locations.  We’re continually looking for more opportunities to serve the community.

Wednesday, August second from 10-1 ICL staff is hosting the opening of the “We Are Water: Connecting Communities” exhibit.  With hands-on activities for everyone, science fun, and good snacks, we hope community members will stop and visit this special exhibit and be part of the conversation. After all, water and water issues affect everyone. It’s a wonderful opportunity to have a museum-quality exhibit in our small town. Bring the kids and the grands and take advantage of this unique exhibit. We have much to learn from each other as we all look at water from different perspectives. While you’re at the library, take a few minutes to view the local art hanging on the walls. It’s all water-related and a wonderful collection of work from local artists.

It’s a special time at the Ignacio Community Library and we hope you will share it with us. But don’t put it off, as we all know time flies! See you soon at the library!
