Phase I Paving Overview  

 The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor Oldcastle SW Group, Inc., will begin the first phase of paving on CO 172 (an east-west highway) on the segment from just east of the Durango Airport (DRO) turn-off to just east of the US 160 junction at Elmore’s Corner (between red arrows on map).  

IMPORTANT: once this first phase of bottom-mat paving is complete, the work zone will move to the segment east of the airport and progress east (and south) through Ignacio, likely starting mid/late-August. 

Phase I Schedule 

Just East of DRO Airport Turn-Off to US 160 at Elmore’s Corner 

Start: July 24  

End (estimate): Aug. 30 

Work Hours: 9 am – 9 pm (workdays will get shorter) 

Travel Impacts 

• There will be single-lane, alternating traffic Monday – Friday; some Saturday work is possible. 
• Delays up to 30 minutes can be expected, depending upon traffic volumes. 
• The speed limit will be reduced to 40 mph throughout the work zone. 
• Commuters driving on CO 172 through the work area to DRO should allow themselves at least 30 minutes of extra travel time.
