Do you sometimes feel that you’re in a rut?

Tracking along in life without much excitement or variety? I think that part of the appeal of new year’s resolutions is that we want to shake things up, reinvigorate our lives and get out of our routines. Sometimes we want to renew a passion we had years ago and sometimes we want to find a new interest, a new passion. If any of this describes you, you’re in good company and the library is a great place to start.

One of our guiding principals at ICL is the idea of lifelong learning. For the staff this means staying on top of new technology including how to use various new tools and how to help our patrons use them. It means learning new software, especially on government sites with which our patrons often need assistance.

As difficult and frustrating as some of these activities may be, they also help us to hone our skills and be more comfortable in serving our patrons. And while these may not be the most exciting parts of our jobs, we also get to explore other skills, things like sewing, 3D printing, crafting, and of course, the new ideas we are exposed to through our new books, movies, and programs. We believe there is something for everyone here at ICL.

This month we’re all looking forward to the Friends of ICL Gala event on January 27th. We’ve got great music planned, artists to visit with, yummy food and drinks and more. If you haven’t bought your tickets yet, you can do so at the service desk. It will be a fun evening right here close to home while supporting the Friends of the Library who support the library is so many ways.

Next month we’ve got our mystery dinner returning. It’s a fun who-dun-it that our patrons have enjoyed immensely over the years and always entertaining both for those who chose to play one of the suspects and for those trying to solve the mystery.

We’d love to help you reinvigorate your life by learning something new, trying something different. If you have a skill you would like to teach, let us know. And if you have an idea for a class or program we don’t yet offer, please tell us about it. We love trying new things here at the library!
