Ignacio Community Library is always searching for methods and resources to keep our patrons engaged with reading and the many other activities and events that are offered. This April the Library is launching a new digital platform, called Beanstack, with the hope that you will find this a fun and easy way to do just that.

Beanstack is a web and mobile app used to track independent reading time, and help build a culture of reading in school and at home. Beanstack makes it easier to track your reading and participate in contests and library activities and additionally, for families to help kids track reading and keep kids motivated to read.

ICL runs many contests during the year and Beanstack will allow you to participate and register at your convenience, from the comfort of your home. Also, you will now find yourself invited to participate in reading challenges, write reviews of books, share your activity with friends and, in so doing, be rewarded with digital badges and prizes. Additionally, the IDEA LAB plans to create challenges that will allow you to gain a variety of skills in self-guided activities with proof of accomplishment and rewards upon completion.

Now before you groan about being pushed onto yet another digital space, please realize that library staff will be available to help you register and understand how to use Beanstack. We hope that with a little practice, you will find yourself reading more than ever before and using the library in ways you did not even know existed.

On another note, please join the library on Thursday, May 5, for a Cinco de Mayo Party on the plaza starting at 5:30 pm. There will be music, demonstrations, food, and fun.

The staff at the library hopes you are enjoying the longer daylight hours and want to remind everyone that we are once again open seven days a week. Check our website for more information and to view our newsletter.

This month the library news is written by Ron Schermacher, the IDEA LAB Educator.
