Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet announced that Colorado will receive a record $125.6 million for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to help Colorado families cover energy bills this winter. Colorado will receive an additional $71.8 million from the American Rescue Plan Act for LIHEAP on top of its typical annual appropriation of $53.8 million.  

“I’m grateful that our state will receive a record amount of funding to help Coloradan’s cover energy costs this cold winter,” said Bennet. “No family should have to worry about how they’re going to heat their home – especially amid a pandemic. I’m glad we were able to secure this additional critical funding for LIHEAP through the American Rescue Plan Act earlier this year to help families stay warm.” 

Last month, Bennet joined his colleagues in a bicameral letter urging the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to address the ongoing energy crisis and its effect on families eligible for LIHEAP funding.
