The weekend rains halted long enough for the first annual Kid’s Classic Fishing Derby at Scott’s Pond.   “It was a huge success,” said Jon Broholm, Wildlife Technician for SUIT Wildlife Management Division.   Fifty-two young anglers ranging from two to fifteen years of age, demonstrated their fishing skills on the cloud covered Saturday afternoon. Trophies and prizes were awarded to anglers with the greatest cumulative length and number of fish, in three different age groups. Largemouth bass, rainbow trout, green sunfish, grass carp and roundtail chub were caught on live worms, plastic worms, spinners, jigs and crankbaits. “The purpose of this event was to showcase our local fishing opportunities and reward outstanding anglers,” said Chris Ricci, Fishing Derby Director.  And a finally, a thank you to the sponsors of the event:  Josh Bertrand Fishing, Gardenschwartz, Eagle Claw Tackle, Arboles Marine and The Southern Ute Indian Tribe.
