Healing Spirits, Peaceful Spirit Alumni Program

Peaceful Spirit, the Southern Ute Treatment Center, has officially launched an Alumni Aftercare Program with the help of some recent alumni. According to Esther Belin, the Intake and Aftercare Coordinator, Healing Spirits events are committed to creating community health by offering sober, family-oriented activities in the Ignacio area. Activities are peer-facilitated and inspired. The group’s events are open to everyone in support of recovery.

Healing Spirits has a calendar of events that include a booth at the Event Center Halloween Carnival, a Memorial Walk on November 14th, a New Year’s Eve potluck at the Multi-Purpose facility and a Sobriety Pow Wow on January 2nd at the Sun Ute gym. They are also sponsoring an art contest themed, “On the Red Road Journey to Healing.” The deadline is December 1, 2015. In addition to a cash prize, the winner’s artwork will be featured on t-shirts available for sale at the Sobriety Pow Wow. The group has a Facebook page and an email address: healingspiritsinrecovery@gmail.com.

“An aftercare program is essential to maintaining sobriety. This group understands the difficulties around recovery yet they also believe in the healing and transformation potential it can bring to the individual and the community where they live,” adds Belin. Healing Spirits abides by the mission of Peaceful Spirit which is to provide care and education to those struggling with addiction issues, to promote the dignity of each client while supporting healthy lifestyles and to create a community dedicated to sobriety and recovery.
