The Jimmy R. Newton Jr. Youth Leadership Conference was held on Saturday, May 16 at Ignacio Middle School. The conference was created by the Sunshine Cloud Smith Youth Council and was designed to help the youth develop team building and leadership skills, while still learning about Ute culture.

D’Vondra Garcia represented Southern Ute Royalty during the Jimmy Newton Jr. Youth Leadership Conference on Saturday, May 16.
Activities that included team-building skills were made available for the participating youth.
In addition to team-building activities, a Hand Game class and Ute culture class was hosted at the conference.

Along with friends, food and leadership came hashtags! SCSYAC started two hashtag campaigns in an effort to accept President Obama’s challenge to help our youth in our community.
