In light of recent misfortunes across the United States, the Southern Ute Police Department collaborated with the SunUte Community Center to ensure the facility is fully protected during a hostile situation. The groups met on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at the recreation center where a safety walkthrough took place. All locked doors and exits were inspected with the provision of there ever being an active shooter on the premises.  Chief of police, Ray Coriz, and Lieutenant Chris Naranjo went over proper safety strategies with the Boys & Girls Club to ensure everyone is out of harm’s way and how to act in possible desperate situations.  Preparation is the prominent factor in preventing a dreadful event with safety being the number one priority.
