Get Involved! The Parents’ Guide to Education

Help with your Child’s Education

You play a major role in your child’s education. This includes working with your child and his or her school to ensure they get a quality education. No matter their age or grade, it is never too late to get involved. In each issue of the Drum we will provide some tips, guidelines, and ways you can have an active role in your child’s education.

School Tardiness

Make sure your child gets to school on time.

Being even a few minutes late can negatively impact learning. Plan ahead to avoid the morning rush. Each night:

  • Make sure homework is complete
  • Have clothes ready for the next day
  • Have lunches packed or lunch money ready (if necessary)
  • Have school bags/backpacks packed and ready

As students get older delegate some of these tasks to them and make sure they have a reliable ride to school.

School Absences

Avoid school absences with by having your student practice some of these healthy habits:

  • Eating heathy meals and snacks
  • Washing hands regularly
  • Immunizations are up to date
  • Physical activity (within reason)
  • And getting plenty of rest

If your student is sick do not send him or her to school however, make sure you follow the school policies in reporting absences and tardiness, as well as returning to school after an absence.

Be sure the school has updated contact information so you can be reached if your student doesn’t show up for school. Keep track of absences to ensure your student doesn’t miss an excessive amount of school.
