


Longtime friend and former colleague, Garrett Briggs shares heartfelt wishes for Cassandra Atencio as she transitions into a new chapter in her life, his tearful stories warmed hearts and brought out the tissues. Atencio plans to focus on her personal life and spend lots of time with her family, more specifically her grandchildren.
During her tenure in the Tribal Historic Preservation Office and Native American Graves & Repatriation Act, Cassandra Atencio has been a very knowledgeable cultural resource, she spent many years sharing Ute cultural teachings and educating many employees throughout the Permanent Fund, Growth Fund and Sky Ute Casino Resort. DOE Energy Manager, Andy Wetherell embraces Atencio and shares his gratitude for sharing her knowledge over the years.
Members of Southern Ute Tribal Council, Tribal employees, friends and family members of Cassandra Atencio gathered at the Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum to share words of encouragement as they all bid farewell to Atencio ahead of her next adventures on Tuesday, April 8. For many years, Atencio advocated for historical Southern Ute items and remains in her role with NAGPRA and the Cultural Preservation Department, leaving a huge impact on those she has met. Council member Linda Baker shares a story with guests about her time working with Atencio.
