Albuquerque Area Indian Health Board convenes in Ignacio

The Albuquerque Area Indian Health Board (AAIHB) held its October 10 meeting at the Sky Ute Casino Resort in Ignacio. The board hold meetings at various tribal venues throughout the year and has met at the Inn of the Mountain Gods, the Ute Mountain Ute Casino and other consortium sites.

The Board is a 501(c) 3 entity and provides funding from various grant sources as sub-awards to various tribes in the Albuquerque Area. Consortium tribes on the Executive Board include the Mescalero Apache Tribe, Jicarilla Apache Nation, Ramah Band of Navajo, ToHajiilee Band of Navajo, Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and the Southern Ute Indian Tribe.

The programs provide assistance such as the good health and wellness programs, internships for high school and college level Native American students going into health fields, Covid-19 testing kits, audiology services, financial literature, equine therapy, elder safety,  SAMHSA 988 emergency response, opioid response, HIV education/literature, Train the Trainer programs for health workers, and other sub-awards to tribes in the Albuquerque Area. 

Staff attend area health events and provide on-site information and assistance as well. AAIHB is an Indian-owned and operated nonprofit organization that serves tribal communities in New Mexico, southern Colorado, and west Texas.
