The Southern Ute Behavioral Health Dept. and Colorado Behavioral Health hosted the 3rd annual “Recovery is Possible” Recovery Retreat, with a Professional’s Day on Friday, May 16 at the Sky Ute Casino Resort’s Event Center. The event brought in multiple resources – including health professionals and recovery assistance programs from the region for networking and providing resources to the community. Two sessions on Professionals Day included presentations by Christa Martin and Avani G. Dilger, before ending the day with a Bear Dance presentation by Bear Dance Chief, Matthew Box. Saturday, May 17, the Recovery Retreat opened with the Southern Ute and Ute Mountain Ute color guard posting the colors, with songs by R.C. Lucero and a prayer by Hanley Frost. Robert Ortiz emceed the event, with welcoming remarks by Tribal Council and Royalty. Breakout sessions were offered throughout the day, including Acudetox – Auricular acupuncture detoxification, Narcan training by La Plata Harm Reduction and a performance by Native hip-hop artists and actors, Lil Mike & Funny Bone. Prayers were offered to the Hoop of 100 Eagle Feathers, with the prayer bundle presented to the Behavioral Health Dept.
