Family and friends of Robert ‘Saaswanis Hiswaqs’ Buckskin gathered in the early morning to celebrate the coming of 2015 with a sobriety walk. The four-mile walk began at the Veteran’s Memorial Park, across Bear Dance bridge, to HWY 151, and through Ignacio and back to the park. The Winder family, and the Buckskin family as well as community members pose for a photo prior to the walk.
The New Year’s Sobriety Walk has been celebrated each New Year’s day and has been going on for many years. The walk has traversed various routes into Ignacio. With the same meaning of bringing in the New Year with sobriety.
Oolcu Buckskin carried her father’s staff, which has been a part of the walks when Robert first carried the staff in years past.
