La Plata County has created a comprehensive flood information and updates page at www.lpcgov.org/flood. It includes road closures, volunteer information, news releases, health and safety information, temporary housing assistance, and other important updates. Residents should check this page for the latest incident information.

La Plata County and the City of Durango are developing a debris management plan. Until the plan is finalized, residents should keep debris on their property. Do not place debris on city streets or within county road rights-of-way, which extends 30 feet from each side of a road’s centerline. Do not take debris to the La Plata County Fairgrounds. Visit www.lpcgov.org/flood for updates on the local debris management plan.

Volunteers can connect with organizations responding across Colorado through Team Up. Register at https://www.teamupvolunteers.org/ to be matched with an organization based on skills and availability. The responding organization will provide instructions about where to go, what to bring, and any required training. Do not travel to an affected area without registering. Unaffiliated volunteers can strain local resources and interfere with response efforts. Registering first helps ensure volunteer assistance reaches the areas of greatest need safely and effectively.

Damage assessments have begun. A complete account of damage throughout the county is critical to the response and recovery effort. Report property and infrastructure damage at https://crisistrack.juvare.com/SurvivorPortal/index.html?cid=laplataCO.

At a special business meeting today, the La Plata County Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution authorizing the La Plata County sheriff, the county’s emergency management director, the public works director, and their designees to access natural streams to assess and remove obstructions that pose an imminent flood hazard. The commissioners also signed a letter asking President Trump to immediately approve a major disaster declaration, which would provide access to FEMA Public Assistance funding and Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funding.

The following road closure list does not include every affected road.  Sheriff’s deputies and Road and Bridge supervisors continue to assess damage and dangerous conditions still exist. Obey all signs and directions from on-site personnel. Before traveling, allow extra time, review maps to locate closures, and plan alternate routes. Please be patient as crews work around the clock to assess and repair extensive, catastrophic damage to La Plata County roads.  This list, with pictures, is viewable at www.lpcgov.org/flood
