The Southern Ute Veterans Association held their annual Memorial Day Services honoring veterans with the “Walk of the Warrior,” Monday, May 25 at the Southern Ute Veteran’s Memorial Park. Grodon Hammond (USMC) served as MC for the event, guest speakers included Cecilia Price (Army) and Raymond Price (Army). A proccession proceeded to the Bear Dance bridge overlooking the Pine River as Rudley Weaver (Navy) released a wreath in honor of those lost at sea. The event ended at the Ouray Memorial Cemetery with a closing ceremony.

Howard Richards Sr., speaks of the many years he served as Commander of the Southern Ute Veterans Association, and his stepping down as Commander. He also spoke of the upcoming 40th anniversary of the association. "I served as Commander for over 30 years of those 40 years," he said.
