Chairman Melvin J. Baker, Tribal Council, Growth Fund leadership, Growth Fund Management Committee, and staff traveled to Wichita Falls, Texas to celebrate the grand opening of the 500,000 square foot Panda Hemp Gin facility. Panda Biotech partnered with the Growth Fund’s Aka Ag LLC in April 2023. The facility will process industrial US-grown hemp straw that will be used for textiles, straw, and pellets.
In front of more than 200 guests, community leaders, and elected officials, Chairman Baker said, “We are thrilled to announce the grand opening of Panda Hemp Gin, a groundbreaking venture that embodies our commitment to sustainable and innovative agricultural practices. This facility represents not just an investment in the future of hemp production at the first in the western hemisphere, but also a dedication to environmental stewardship and community development. We look forward to seeing the positive impact Panda Hemp will have on our industry and the economy.”

The ceremony speakers included Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce CEO Ron Kitchens, Panda Biotech President Dixie Carter, Panda Biotech Chief Operating Officer Scott Evans, and Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller. The speakers concluded the event with a hemp denim ribbon cutting ceremony.
