As the leaves begin to change and October brings cooler days, Ignacio High School’s fall sports teams enter the final stretch of their seasons. With each passing game, league standings and playoff seeding begin to take shape. Ignacio High School’s three fall sports teams have battled hard this year, and while not every victory is reflected on the scoreboard, each team has demonstrated determination, resilience, and Bobcat pride.

Football

Ignacio High School’s football team began the season with 34 athletes, three more than last year. However, the graduation of six seniors left a void that has been difficult to fill, and competing in a league where four of the six teams qualified for the 1A playoffs last year has been a challenge.

Throughout September, the Bobcats showed up, fought through adversity, and gave everything they had, despite losing five players to season-ending injuries. At the end of each game, the scoreboard did not tell the full story of the heart, grit, and determination displayed by the players who remained on the field. Their willingness to keep pushing forward speaks volumes about their character and commitment to one another.

The Bobcats will close out their season on Oct. 30 against Centauri, ranked No. 6. As the season winds down, the team will look to finish strong and continue building for the future.

Volleyball

The Ignacio Varsity Volleyball team holds a 13-3 record, with seven games remaining, and sits second in the San Juan Basin League, having lost only to Dolores. The Volleycats are determined to compete for the top spot and play with an intensity that refuses to let any ball hit the floor without a fight. As a team, they have demonstrated strong teamwork, relentless effort, and the ability to rally together when the pressure is on. Their focus and competitive spirit will be key as they enter the final stretch of the regular season.

The team will travel to Rye, Pagosa Springs, and Center before closing out the regular season at Dolores. These final matches will help determine League and State tournament seeding, while Regional placement remains to be determined. With postseason play approaching, the Volleycats will look to carry their momentum into the tournaments and continue representing Ignacio with pride.

Cross Country

Ignacio Cross Country will compete at the Regional Cross Country Meet in Mancos on Oct. 24, where runners will have the opportunity to qualify for the state meet. Two Ignacio athletes have set new personal records this season, a testament to their hard work, dedication, and steady improvement. As they prepare for regionals, the runners will look to put their training to the test and finish the season strong. Their commitment throughout the season has brought them to this important moment, and the Bobcat community wishes them the best of luck as they compete for a spot at state.

Middle School Athletics

Ignacio Cross Country had nearly 75 student-athletes participate in fall sports this season. Across all sports, athletes focused on developing fundamental skills, strengthening teamwork, and growing as competitors. The highlight of the season came from the middle school football team, which made history by capturing the League Championship. Through hard work and dedication, the coaches and players emphasized sportsmanship, perseverance, integrity, and grit, creating a memorable season and an accomplishment the entire Bobcat community can celebrate.

Looking Ahead: Winter Sports

November marks the beginning of the winter sports season at Ignacio High School. A parent meeting will be held in the Ignacio High School Auditorium on Nov. 9 at 6:15 p.m. The first day of practice for high school basketball and wrestling is Nov. 16.

As we close out the fall season and prepare for winter, we celebrate the hard work, perseverance, and sportsmanship of all our Bobcat athletes. Wins and losses are part of competition, but the dedication these students show, the obstacles they overcome, and the pride they bring to their school and community are victories worth celebrating.

Go Bobcats!
