Happy November from IMS!

We’ve had such a busy and exciting fall

In October, we celebrated 60 students who earned a 3.5 GPA or higher for first quarter honor roll. We also had 50% of our students participate in fall sports, and we currently have 40 students playing boys basketball.

At the start of the school year, we celebrated our strong test scores and used that data to guide how we continue our upward trend.

This year, we are focusing on three key areas:

  • Increasing academic rigor.
  • Strengthening communication and transparency.
  • Building and celebrating pride in our school.

To improve academic rigor, we are focusing on curriculum and ongoing staff training. We also offer Friday Academy, which provides tutoring opportunities for students who need extra support.

In addition to staff development and tutoring, IMS has already hosted two successful academic family evenings. In October we held Science Night, and on Wednesday, Nov. 19 we hosted Literacy Night. We served over 200 meals to families and students and provided hands-on activities along with a student showcase. We will continue offering family nights in the spring, with Social Studies Night in January and Math Night in March. Please refer to the Year at a Glance calendar that was shared and posted on socials at the start of the school year.

To strengthen communication, we participate in KSUT weekly updates, DRUM submissions, and send home regular information and reminders through social media. We also host monthly Building Accountability (BAC) Meetings, which are open to all parents and families. These meetings occur on the third Monday of each month, and we welcome your participation.

When it comes to building pride, it’s important for all of us to speak positively about school and focus on solutions. Each month, we celebrate cultural heritage by having students research notable people, traditions, and foods related to the featured culture and display their work on our Heritage Board. This month, students have been helping with morning announcements and sharing prayers in Ute to expose our entire student body to the richness of the Ute language.

Looking ahead, we have some important events coming up. On Tuesday, Nov. 25, we will host our Heritage Performance here at the school. In December, we will host our annual Science Fair, and we are seeking volunteers who work in science, technology, engineering or math to help judge. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Dayna at dtalamantemontoya@ignacioschools.org. As we move into the holiday season, we want to wish you all a safe, healthy, and happy time.  As always, please reach out for more information or if you have any questions.
