Ignacio School District’s Kerry Lauth selected for Colorado Commissioner’s Teacher Cabinet

Ignacio School District is proud to announce that our Elementary Instructional Coach, Kerry Lauth, has been selected to serve on the Colorado Commissioner’s Teacher Cabinet. This prestigious appointment is a two-year term, during which Lauth will collaborate with educators from across the state, representing both large inner-city schools and small rural districts like Ignacio.

The Teacher Cabinet meets three times a year at the state capitol, where members engage with the Governor’s aide on education issues and Career and Technical Education (CTE) presenters on upcoming changes and challenges in the education system. Cabinet members provide valuable feedback to ensure the voices of educators across Colorado are heard.

“My goal [while on the cabinet] is to lend a voice to our unique culture and the rural aspect of Colorado for educational policies to ensure we don’t get left behind,” Lauth said.

Lauth has been an integral part of the Ignacio School District for her entire 12-year career. She began as an aide and has since advanced to her current role as an instructional coach, where she supports teachers and staff with curriculum development and instructional strategies.

Reflecting on her experience in the district, Kerry shares, “My favorite part about Ignacio School District is the community – getting to be involved and bringing all of these unique people together around the school, creating the feeling of family.”

Superintendent Chris deKay expressed the district’s pride in Kerry’s accomplishment, stating, “Ignacio School District is proud of the work Kerry will be doing to represent the southwest corner of Colorado and our rural community.”

Kerry’s appointment to the Teacher Cabinet is a testament to her dedication to education and her commitment to ensuring that rural communities have a voice in shaping Colorado’s educational policies. The Ignacio School District looks forward to seeing the positive impact she will make in this role.
