Montessori celebrates 65 years!
This year, 2025, the American Montessori Society will celebrate its 65th anniversary. This milestone reflects decades of championing Montessori education and creating pathways for children, educators, and communities worldwide. It is a testament to their desire to “teach” differently and an invitation to look forward. This school year is SUIMA’s 25th anniversary. This is milestone reflects our commitment to preserve and share the Southern Ute language and culture within a Montessori environment, while creating future Tribal and world leaders. With the Southern Ute language being the cornerstone of the school, we support our students so they can appreciate their culture, language, and lifelong learning.
Montessori Tidbits
Through the dedication of the guides and teachers, the Montessori philosophy takes root, nurturing each child’s journey and empowering families. As Montessori educators, the staff create environments where empathy, understanding, and respect flourish – qualities the world needs now more than ever.
Maria Montessori believed in setting ground rules. The rights of every student in a Montessori classroom can be seen in the “rights” listed below. These are fundamental to the operation of our classrooms.
“The right to be safe.”
- Part of the prepared environment is the safety of the students.
“The right to be undisturbed.”
- Order and self-discipline are important, and each student has the right to maintain order and concentration while being involved in their learning.
“The right to choose any lesson that has already been presented to them.”
- Once a lesson is taught to a student, it is available for choice whenever the student wants to do the lesson. The student’s ability to choose a lesson assures interest in the lesson. The ability to build on the lesson, assures the student can continue the lesson to mastery.
