Spring is here! It has been a great year so far at Ignacio Elementary School! I cannot believe how fast it is going. The next five weeks are filled with lots of learning, field trips, activities, performances, and end-of-year assessments.
Last week grades three-five completed the state CMAS testing. All students worked hard to show off all they had learned since last year. The students celebrated with a trip to the Durango movie theater to see Kung Fu Panda 4. We will get their scores back in August as we start the new school year.
Empty Bowls is coming back to Ignacio Elementary School. This is an event we have every two years. The students from the elementary and high school make 400 ceramic bowls for the event during the two years. All the community is welcome to come to the event on Thursday, April 25 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the elementary cafeteria. For $10, you can choose one of the bowls that the students made, then sample as many bowls of soup as you can eat through the end of the event. There will be up to 40 soups available. The best part is you get to keep the bowl! There will also be a silent auction with some fabulous items. All proceeds go to local families in need of food and to the Heifer Foundation.
Attention families with four and five-year-olds as of August 1: We are making plans for next year’s Kindergarteners and four-year-old Universal PreK students! We ask families to pre-register for the year by filling out a quick form to let us know they are coming. The link can be found on the district website. The form asks for the child’s name, date of birth, and parent contact information. This way we can plan to have enough teaching staff hired before August. You can also get important updates and information on activities and events for UPK and Kindergarten before August. We will contact you when it is time to fully register your child this summer.
Please plan to attend our Future Kindergarten Open House on Monday, Aug. 22 from 5:15 – 6:15 at the elementary school. Families will tour the school, meet kindergarten teachers, hear about summer programs for future kindergarten students, eat a free meal prepared by cafeteria staff, and receive a free $20 gift card to Farmer’s Fresh.
