Hello from Ignacio Middle School!

Wow, it is so hard to believe that we are more than halfway through the 2023-2024 school year. The middle school has been very busy with academics and activities to support students.

We just held our school wide spelling bee on the last Wednesday of January. We had nine students competing from 6th, 7th, and 8th grades respectively. Our top three competitors were: first place, Ava Sage-Morgan, second place, Faustino Joy and in third place, Harley Ferguson. These students made it through three rounds to be in the top three! Honorable mentions for the other six competitors: Myla Goodtracks, Craig “Jr.” Hight, Alex Yazzie, Isaias Cuthair, Parker Isaacson, and Haven Jones. The spelling bee is hosted by Ms. Talamante, seventh grade language arts teacher.

Ignacio Middle School will be participating in the Regional Science Fair on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Fort Lewis College.

Students competed in the school wide Science Fair, Dec. 20. We will also have our schoolwide History Day competition on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

We will have the history day gallery open during the evening of Feb. 21 for parents and visitors to walk through and view student work. This Gallery Walk will be the same night as Parent/Teacher Conferences so that parents can speak to teachers and view projects that students have worked on.

Regional National History Day will be at Fort Lewis in March.

In terms of athletics, we are nearing the end of the girls’ basketball season with our last two home games being Tuesday, Feb. 6 and Tuesday, Feb. 13. The league tournament will be on Saturday, Feb. 17 in Bayfield. The middle school hosted the MS wrestling tournament on Saturday. The season continues with the final league meet in Cortez on March 9. IMS will host a TRI on Feb. 29.

For parents that would like to learn a bit more about parenting classes through Love and Logic, Internet Safety, or Challenging Conversations with your kiddo, please go to unitedway-swco.org/workshops to register for the workshops. All of the three workshops will provide parents with dinner and childcare for the meeting, as well as prize drawings that include gift cards, activity passes, gas cards and more! Please make sure to register using the link provided.

If you would like to follow IMS on social media, we are on IG: @ignaciomidschool and FB: Ignacio Mid School. As always, please reach out with any questions, concerns or if you would like to volunteer to visit classrooms as a speaker.
