Miss Southern Ute Alternate, Rhianna Carel wears impairment goggles while participating in an impaired driving simulation provided by the Southern Ute Police Department and facilitated by Community Resource Officers Don Folsom and Jasper Abeyta. Attendees heard from keynote speakers and also enjoyed Ute language lessons, nutritional Jeopardy, and self-defense with professional MMA Fighter Kevin Wirth.
Groups of youth create their own family tree’s utilizing the Ute language. Youth of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, and the local community gathered at the Sky Ute Casino Resort Events Center for the Jimmy Newton Jr. Youth Leadership Conference, held on Wednesday, July 26.
Emcee Bird Red gives thanks to all the attendees and the coordinators of this year’s Jimmy Newton Jr. Youth Leadership Conference at the end of the event. Red helped to keep the event organized and all guests entertained throughout the day.
