Romero and Isaacson: BGC Youths of the Month
What do you like about club?
“I like club because the workers always try to find ways for us to have fun” – Club member
May Youth of the Month
We have two club members we want to recognize.
First is our Junior Youth of the Month which is awarded to Sophia Romero. Sophia always comes to club with a good attitude. On top of following directions and being helpful, Sophia is also very athletic and resilient – she doesn’t let the little things bring her down. Sophia speaks up for others in group and she shows leadership qualities. She has all 6 Character Counts characteristics. Every day she comes to club, we continue to learn something new about her.

Youth of the Month
Our second Youth of the Month award goes to Parker Isaacson. Parker is very helpful in group. She follows directions when given, and she always greets staff with a “hi or hello.” Parker is also a good role model; she likes to bring our younger club members under her wing to guide them in club. Staff agree that she shows all 6 pillars of Character Counts, and we hope she continues coming to club!

BGC HIGHLIGHTS
When school’s out, Clubs are in!
June through August are the busiest months we have. We try to increase our staff count to serve more adolescents during summer. We prepare our staff to work with our members on building strong, positive relationships in a safe and caring environment.
From the last day of Afterschool Club to the first day of Summer Club, our BGCSU staff go through a variety of trainings. Training includes Behavioral Management, First Aid & CPR, Transportation Safety, Crisis Prevention Institute’s Non-Violent Crisis Prevention and more. On top of training, staff plan every hour we have with our club members until the last day of summer. If you or someone you know is interested in working in an active/fun environment, please apply online at southernute-nsn.gov.
BGC Board of Director Words
What made you want to be a part of our BGC team?
“The reason why I serve on the BGC Board is because our kids matter and putting the effort into their overall well-being is important to me. It is imperative that we have great relationships between trusted adults and youth”. – Board Member
