Spring has sprung in this month that we celebrate “Responsibility.” Wear your green on Wednesdays to show your support in our community wide Character Counts program. Spring also brings a very busy couple of months at Ignacio High School. Our spring sports are in full swing with track, girls’ soccer and baseball. Please check out the Ignacio School District website for specific days and times and come by and support our awesome student athletes.

April is the month where we test our students to see what they have learned in their years of schooling. This month our freshmen, sophomores and juniors will take the PSAT or the SAT, Wednesday, April 13, and Juniors will take the Science CMAS Wednesday, April 20. Seniors will not be tested on the 13th and the 20th and are expected to come to school on these testing days.

Beginning in May, many of our students will participate in an AP (Advanced Placement) test as well. To help your high school student be successful on these tests make sure they get plenty of sleep the weeks and nights leading up to the test. Help them start their test day with a healthy protein filled breakfast the morning of the test. You may also help them study for these tests the weeks leading up to the actual test date. The day of the test the students will be awarded with off campus passes if they show up to the test on time and work hard during the testing time.

The end of the school year is fast approaching and that means graduation. Our hope is to have graduation with no Covid restrictions this year. The senior class has chosen to have their graduation ceremony outside on Monday, May 30 at 10 a.m. in the morning. Following graduation, we will have the senior parade down Goddard Avenue. If you cannot make it to graduation, you can congratulate the seniors as they parade downtown immediately after graduation.

Baccalaureate will be in the evening prior to graduation (date pending). Dinner will be served and a presentation of the senior slide show and scholarship awards will occur during Baccalaureate. It is always a bittersweet time of the year to say goodbye to our seniors, but it is also very exciting to see them growing and moving on.

Ignacio High School is offering summer school again this year to support students who have struggled in the last year or two. Summer school will start the week of May 31 and run through June 10, 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each weekday. We will have at least four certified teachers on staff to help students complete credits for the 2022-2023 school year. During this time, we can also offer support for students who will be completing online credit recovery courses which may continue throughout the summer.

It has been a great school year and we are looking forward to next year with our new high school schedule, a new four-day school week calendar and a district wide strategic plan in place. Please feel free to come into the high school and visit with us should you have any questions or concerns.
