Southern Ute tribal member Tarah Baker has been nominated as the Southern Ute Student of the Season for the Fall of 2019. Baker currently attends the fifth grade at Ignacio Elementary School. Her parents are Julius Baker and Candice Johnson.

“Tarah has high expectations of herself and works hard at school. She is kind and respectful to others and is a joy to work with at school. Continue the awesome work!” exclaimed Southern Ute Public Education Teacher, Mrs. Dorian Morris.

McKayla Lee: Why do you think you have been nominated to be student of the season? How does that make you feel?

Tarah Baker: I have been nominated because I work hard, and I am respectful to others. I stay kind as well.

ML: Do you have any role models? Why are they your role models?

TB: Yes, my dad and my grandfather, because they teach me stuff and tell me how to be positive.

ML: Do you have a favorite subject?

TB: Uhm yes, science, math, ELA and PE. In PE I can be active, in ELA I learn about history, math I can do equations and science I like to do the projects.

ML: Do you have any hobbies or anything you do outside of school?

TB: I like to play volleyball and I like to do art.

ML: Do you know what you want to do after high school?

TB: I want to go to college and be an athlete.

ML: Really, where?

TB: I want to go to UCLA in California, where I was born or FIDM which is a fashion institute.

ML: How does being student of the season make you feel?

TB: Happy.

ML: And why is that?

TB: because I feel proud of myself.
