A night of honor

Southern Ute Tribal Vice Chairwoman Lorelei Cloud and Sunshine Cloud Smith Youth Advisory Council Chairman Lakota TwoCrow honored Navy (ret.) veteran Raymond Baker with a Pendleton blanket. Baker was the special guest speaker during the concert.
Blake Blakesley gave the invocation before dinner was served at the 6th annual Veterans Dinner & Concert hosted by the Ignacio High School on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
The Ignacio High School Choir sang songs during dinner, including a melody of hymns, with “The Pride Of America” sung, paying tribute to those in attendance who served in the Armed Forces.
Ignacio High School Athletic Director Rocky Cundiff stands as the hymn “The Halls of Montezuma” is sung by the Ignacio High School choir, in tribute to those who served in the Marines.

4th and 5th choir along with Girls Scouts and Boys Scouts members say the Pledge of Allegiance to begin the Veterans Concert in the Ignacio High School Auditorium.
The Blue Steel Quartet, from Albuquerque, N.M. closed out the concert with barbershop standards, “Bust A Chord” and “Hello My Baby” and other songs including a rendition of “Amazing Grace” sung to the tunes of “Ghost Riders In The Sky,” the “Gilligans Island” theme and “House of the Rising Sun” ala Elvis Presley.

The Ignacio High School hosted a Veteran’s Dinner and Concert, the 6th annual event sponsored in part by the Southern Ute Education Dept. “A Salaute To Our Veterans” organized by Ms. Fjerstad, with help of the Ignacio High School students with setup, cleaning and assisting the cafeteria staff in serving the dinner. A slideshow, created by Chris deKay and Trae Seibel, was shown of veterans in the community.
