Youth Employment Program workers and tribal members Carlos Herrera (left) and Rylan Herrera use a “Shoot, Don’t Shoot Simulator” that Southern Ute Police Department officers train on. Both Carlos and Rylan tried on the SUPD’s Emergency Response Gear as well.
The simulator is like a life size video game, which presents real life scenarios. The student/officer must decide what level of force to use. Both Carlos and Rylan agreed it was, “fun” and that these scenarios can change in a “second.”
