Head Start grads celebrate entering elementary

Southern Ute Head Start students William Mendoza, Victoria Westbrook, Maliyah Martinez, Matthew Toledo, Katelin Jackson, Keevin Reynolds and Zoe Velasquez carried in the flags as part of the ‘Entrance of the Children’.
Students entered by doing the 'Marcha' led by Grandma Virginia Velasquez. The students graduated from the Head Start on Thursday, May 29 and will be entering the Ignacio Elementary School next year.
Matthew Toledo places the Southern Ute Tribal Flag in its holder.
Sam Maez gave the traditional blessing and sang a song on the hand drum.
Little Miss Southern Ute Tauri Raines welcomed those in attendance to the Head Start Graduation. Behind her stands Junior Miss Southern Ute Alexandria Roubideaux.
Stoney and his father R.C. Lucero joined Tyson Thompson in singing an honor song for the graduating students.
Yellow Jacket singers led the students, family and others in a round dance to close out the Head Start graduation ceremony.
