This year’s visit marks the 11th year of the GHS Senior Seminar. Each year Ortiz serves as the organizer for the trip to Ignacio – encouraging various Tribal departments and divisions to participate, continuing to share Southern Ute culture with students and staff. Golden students make annual visit to Ignacio


Golden High School students from Golden, Colo., visited the Southern Ute Reservation again for the 11th year, April 8 and 9, they have visited since 2012. Part of their curriculum includes a seminar and trip based around the cultures and people of the desert southwest. They met with various tribal departments and staff to learn about the services they each provide to the Southern Ute tribal membership. During their two-day visit, they met with Tribal Council, Growth Fund, Southern Ute Indian Montessori Academy, SunUte, Southern Ute Drum, Wildlife Dept. and toured the Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum. The students met with the Cultural Preservation Dept., and round danced with Southern Ute Royalty, with singing by members of the Southern Ute drum group. The students and staff were on-air with KSUT Tribal Radio’s REZ-olution Radio Hour DJ, Robert Ortiz.
