The Southern Ute Cultural Preservation Department is pleased to announce Tribal Council’s appointment of Ms. Audrey Andrews as the Southern Ute Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO). Andrews brings an impressive background, including archaeological fieldwork, university teaching, while most recently participating as a National NAGPRA Program Fellow.

Andrews holds an M.A. in Anthropology and Gender, Race, and Identity Studies and is completing her Ph.D. in Anthropology at the University of Nevada. She completed her dissertation work on Reno divorce ranches with the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe near Reno, Nev.

As the THPO, Andrews will lead the Tribe’s historic preservation efforts, including identifying and protecting historic properties, consulting with federal, state, and local government entities on undertakings and oversight of the NAGPRA program. In her new role, the Cultural Preservation Department looks forward to strengthening tribal member engagement in the protection and preservation of Ute cultural resources.
