We are excited to share a special collaboration between the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and Rocky Mountain PBS that highlights the deep and enduring connection between the Nuuchiu and Colorado’s natural hot springs in the latest episode of “Colorado Experience.”

As Colorado’s oldest continuous residents, we are proud to be part of this meaningful project. The episode explores the cultural, historical, and scientific significance of these sacred waters, featuring Cassandra Atencio, former Tribal Historic Preservation Officer, and voices from across the state. We have long known that Indigenous knowledge and traditional medicine laid the foundation for many modern healing practices – especially those rooted in the power of water.

The “Colorado Experience,” is Rocky Mountain PBS’ flagship history series, which explores the people, places, and events that have shaped Colorado’s rich heritage. Each episode aims to bring history to life, offering fresh perspectives that foster a deeper sense of connection and community among Coloradans.
