The San Juan College (SJC) Native American Center (NAC) proudly announces that Rhianna Carel, a Business Administration student from Ignacio, Colo., and a member of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, has been crowned Ms. Indigenous 2025.

The crowning took place during the 18th annual San Juan College Ms. Indigenous Pageant on Wednesday, Sept. 24. Contestants honor both traditional artistry and contemporary talents, with the title of Ms. Indigenous bestowed on a student who best represents the spirit, values and legacy of Native traditions.

Carel competed with a platform focused on inspiring youth to pursue higher education, set meaningful goals and find confidence in their ability to succeed. Deeply connected to her culture, she participates in powwow dancing, beading, sewing and treasures her role in the Bear Dance. She credits her father, an SJC alumnus, and her mother, who has always emphasized the importance of education, for motivating her to pursue her degree and serve as a role model for others.

“I was inspired to compete for Ms. Indigenous to give back to San Juan College, which has done so much for me and my family,” Carel siad. “Holding this title is an honor, and I hope to encourage the younger generation to pursue higher education, set goals and believe they can achieve them.”

The pageant was emceed by Chizz Bah and supported by BeWell. San Juan College congratulates Rhianna Carel on her achievement and looks forward to the impact she will make as Ms. Indigenous 2025.
