Representatives from each visiting and host drum group took on the annual Singers Jalapeño Eating Contest hosted by Robert Ortiz. Singers must eat five whole jalapeños for a chance to win the grand prize–Daniel Tenorio, Sun Eagle Singers, took home the grand prize after sweating through the challenge held Sunday evening.
Drum group, Leading Arrow of Oklahoma took home first place in the 64th Annual Southern Ute Tribal Fair Powwow drum contest. Leading Arrow sang the final song on Sunday evening closing out this year’s powwow and celebrating their win.

The 64th Annual Southern Ute Tribal Fair Powwow filled the Sky Ute Fairgrounds arena Friday, Sept. 6 through Sunday, Sept. 8, the Southern Ute Powwow Committee welcomed dancers and singers from all over Indian Country to enjoy a weekend filled with laughter and good company. Head staff included Emcee Erny Zah, Arena Director OJ Little Cook, Drum Judge Yahsti Perkins, Head Gourd Dancer Henry Elkriver Whiteskunk, and host drums The Horses and Full Metal Jacket. In addition to the powwow, visitors also enjoyed the nearby Fair events taking place just right outside the arena.
