The Southern Ute Veterans Association leads in Grand Entry during the Southern Ute Veterans Powwow on Saturday, Nov 11 at Ignacio High School. This community powwow welcomed veterans in the area–sponsors include — Volunteers to Honor our Veterans, Southern Ute Veterans Association, Ignacio School District, and the Southern Ute Multi-Purpose Facility Powwow Group.
Veterans dance into the circle during the Southern Ute Veterans Powwow, this event welcomed veterans both locally and within the area to the Southern Ute Reservation in celebration of the Veterans Day holiday.
Ute Mountain Ute amongst other tribal ambassadors attended the event, representing their respective titles, while celebrating veterans.
Southern Ute tribal member, Hunter Frost dances in the men’s traditional category.
Jacque Cantsee dances in the women’s traditional category during the Southern Ute Veterans Powwow on Saturday, Nov. 11.
Southern Ute Veterans Association Commander, Howard Richards Sr. presented two certificates in appreciation to representatives of the Ignacio School District and members of the Ignacio School Board Chris deKay and Alan McCaw during the event.
Host drum group Shiprock Agency sings an intertribal song for all attendees to dance to. The Shiprock Agency singers hail from Shiprock, N.M.

The Southern Ute Veterans Powwow was held on Saturday, Nov. 11 at Ignacio High School, this event tailored to local veterans was sponsored by groups — Volunteers to Honor our Veterans, Southern Ute Veterans Association, Ignacio School District, and the Southern Ute Multi-Purpose Facility Powwow Group. Attendees of all ages and veterans alike participated in gourd dance, intertribal dancing and singing, the event also featured multiple venders and concessions.
