Southern Ute Tribal Council member Vanessa Torres read a proclamation from Tribal Council honoring Southern Ute elder, Russell Box Sr. on Saturday, Aug. 5 at the Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum (SUCCM). SUCCM presented an exhibition dedicated to the life work of Southern Ute artist, Russell Box Sr. spanning 73 years of artistic work with a temporary gallery.

Art market and juried show awards artists


The Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum invited Tribal members, local community, and art enthusiasts to the second annual Pino Nuche Indigenous Art Market and Juried Show held Friday, Aug. 4 to Sunday, Aug. 6 at the Sky Ute Casino Resort. The market provides a platform for local artists to showcase and sell their work to attendees. The event also celebrated the life achievements of Russell Box Sr., a Southern Ute elder and professional artist; the Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum presented the temporary exhibit, “Russell Box Sr. Retrospective” a collection showcasing 73 years of Box’s work.
