Kicking off the 98th Annual Southern Ute Tribal Fair was the contest powwow. Rustling regalia, frying food and laughter could be heard everywhere as drum groups, spectators and powwow contenders filled the Sky Ute Fairgrounds arena for the three-day event, Friday, Sept. 7 — Sunday, Sept. 8. The Southern Ute Royalty welcomed the new 2018-2019 cohort: Miss Southern Ute Jazmine Carmenoros, Jr. Miss Southern Ute Autumn Sage, Little Miss Southern Ute Patience Watts Gaines and Southern Ute Brave Levi Lopez during Friday night’s coronation ceremony.
