Tribal elder Pearl Casias met with Tom Givon, writer of the Ute Dictionary at the Ignacio Community Library on Thursday, June 13 to discuss the development process of the textbooks, while providing insight on how the Ute language is spoken. Casias opened the discussion with an opening prayer while Givon pointed out the various dialects in the Ute language. The Ute Dictionary features approximately 3,000 Ute words, and can be purchased online from the John Benjamin’s Publishing Company. Additional commercial release is yet to be determined.
