Nine replicas of real Ute items were chosen for the display to help showcase traditional Ute bags. The display was created as part of a Memorandum of Understanding with both the Southern Ute Cultural Center & Museum and the Cultural Preservation Department to showcase Ute history and culture for visitors to the airport.
Southern Ute Cultural Center & Museum’s Collections Manager, Tallias Cantsee aids both Special Projects Support Staff Members, Rhonda Price and Kree Lopez with the mounts used within the airport display case on Wednesday, May 13, at the Durango-La Plata County Airport. Both Price and Lopez created magnetic inserts and covers for the mounts to create a “floating” effect for the displayed objects.
Museum Special Projects Support Staff, Rhonda Price places a replica of a Ute beaded tail bag from the John Calantonio Collection on Wednesday, May 13. The items will remain on display until late-2027, when a new display will be created.
