Zuriah Baker is the newly crowned Miss Southern Ute for 2025-2026, on Friday night following Grand Entry, the passing of the crown was completed by the previous reigning Miss Southern Ute, Maleina Carel.

The 65th Annual Southern Ute Tribal Fair Powwow Gourd Dance kicked off on Friday, Sept. 12 in the Sky Ute Fairground Arena. This year’s Gourd Dance drum was Yellow Jacket Singers who represent the Southern Ute, Ponca and other tribes across Indian Country.
Gourd Dancers from the Four Corners and other areas across Indian Country attended different Gourd Dance sessions throughout the weekend.
This year’s Head Gourd Dancer for the 65th Annual Southern Ute Tribal Fair Powwow was Dewayne C. Richards. Richards served as the Headman Dancer during the Grand Entries throughout the Southern Ute Tribal Fair weekend.

The 65th Annual Southern Ute Tribal Fair Powwow returned on Friday, Sept. 12 – Sunday, Sept. 14, presented by the Southern Ute Powwow Committee, Sky Ute Fairgrounds, Cultural Preservation Department, and the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. Dancers, singers, and powwow enthusiasts gathered to enjoy meeting with friends, top notch singing, competitive dancing, specials, and a variety of vendors. The “Old Ute Style” traditional dance contest was the highlight of the weekend, showcasing the original style of dress and dance specific to the Ute people.
