Durango All-Stars baseball team headed to regionals


Andrew Morgan and the Durango Juniors All-Stars baseball team have been successful during the post season as they have managed to win the District 4 Championship and the Colorado State Championship to advance to the seven states Junior League Southwest Regional Tournament to be held in Rio Rancho, NM, Aug. 7- 11.

The Juniors All-Stars started their winning streak by beating Cortez in the District 4 tournament held July 10 and 11 in Cortez, Colo. One week later, The Durango Juniors All-Stars handed the host team two losses in the State Tournament, held July 18- 21, by beating them 9-7 in the Championship game. Morgan’s overall batting stats for the two tournaments consist of 7 hits, 7 RBIs, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Morgan’s overall pitching stats for the two tournaments consist of him striking out 14 batters, walking 7, and holding the opponent to only 8 hits off of him.

Morgan is a first-descendant of the Southern Ute Tribe and is the son of Crystal Garnanez and Virgil Morgan. Matt Pope, David Kidd, and Cole Hyson coach the Durango Juniors All-Stars team. The players are Andrew Morgan, Dawson Marcum, Gus Kidd, Roland Madrid, Aleksander Hurworth, Dylan Ridgeway, Joe Pope, Griffyn Hyson, Logan Fullington, Joe Arnwine, Luke Ford, Kiernan McInnis, and Peter Oles. The winner of the Junior League Southwest Regional Tournament in Rio Rancho will advance to the 2015 Little League World Series Junior Baseball Tournament in Taylor, Michigan, Aug.16-23.
