Durango Walmart was buzzing with excitement as 125 children from 50 families teamed up with local law enforcement officers for the annual “Shop with a Cop” event, Wednesday, Dec. 10. Southern Ute Police Chief, Daryl Noon was honored to join fellow officers from the Durango Police Department, La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol, Ignacio Police Department, Fort Lewis College Police, Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Bayfield Police Department to make the season brighter. Thanks to Durango FOP Lodge 8, each child received $150 to spend—most went toward winter essentials, with plenty left for toys and games. Walmart and Coca-Cola Durango hosted the event, complete with breakfast burritos and coffee for the officers. This long-standing tradition shows the power of community and law enforcement working together.
