The Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum held their History Live! event Saturday, Sept. 17 on the Ancient Life Ways Technology Workshop: Yucca Cordage Manufacturing with Mary Weahkee, assistant archeologist at the New Mexico Office of Archaeological Studies.
Tribal members, community members, and participants of the SILDI Ute Language Immersion Class got the chance to create their own yucca cordage bracelets on Saturday, Sept. 17.
Mary Weahkee, assistant archeologist at the New Mexico Office of Archaeological Studies, discussed various ancient Puebloan ways yucca was used for creating cordage, baskets, sandals, to the medical use of relieving the pain of arthritis and removing cataracts.
