Tribal broadband modernization project continues


Bonfire Engineering continues construction on the tribal broadband project. The northeast route of fiber will begin at the intersection of CO Hwy 172 and CR 517 working northbound toward the intersection of CR 517 and CR 516. Construction will continue northbound on CR 516 to the intersection of Bayfield Parkway, and on to connect to CO Hwy 160. 

There will also be an additional section along CR 518, starting at the Southern Ute Water Treatment Plant, working westbound to the intersection of CR 518 and CR 516. 

Crews will complete trenching, boring, and plowing to lay broadband fiber. Construction vehicles and fiber spools will be visible on the shoulder. 

  • Where: Crews will start on the first section at the intersection of CO Hwy 172 and CR 517 working northbound to the intersection of CR 517 and CR 516. Crews will begin the second section at the Southern Ute Water Treatment Plant working westbound along CR 518 to the intersection of CR 516. Construction will take place along the shoulder of the roadway. Please see attached maps of both sections. 
  • What: The broadband project will include trenching, boring, and plowing to lay fiber, as well as reclamation and seeding. 
  • When: Construction on both sections will begin on Tuesday, April 5,  and conclude on Friday, April 29. Hours of operation will be from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. 
  • Travel Impact: Traffic lanes will be narrowed on CR 517 and CR 518. Motorists will be required to reduce speeds and travel safely around the construction taking place on the side of the road. Please remember to slow down in construction zones, eliminate distractions and drive with extra caution. Motorists are also urged to watch for workers and equipment along the roadway.
