Happy holidays from Ignacio Elementary School

It is such a blessing to serve as the principal for our wonderful school community. Our move from Texas was a little overwhelming at the time, but we were welcomed with open arms and are grateful for the friendships we have made. We are happy to call Ignacio our home and I look forward to supporting the growth of our students and staff at IES.

It’s been a great feeling to begin to open our campus again to families to participate in some of our Bobcat Assemblies and our Fall and Winter Concerts. While it’s been a slow process, we are looking forward to even more opportunities to welcome visitors in to support our students and staff. The support we’ve received from our PTO and Community Partners including the Ignacio Community Library and Boys and Girls Club has been invaluable. We look forward to continued opportunities to build strength within our community through our school and community partners.

I would also like to recognize a special student group that has been working to BUILD relationships amongst our students. Our Ignacio High School Wood Manufacturing Program gifted our school four small picnic tables for our littlest Bobcats to enjoy and they are currently building four playhouses as gifts for our community to enjoy. According to Molly Turner, IHS Wood Manufacturing Instructor & SkillsUSA Advisor, “Students are learning the basics of construction and framing through this service-learning project.

The playhouses are gifts to the community.  One is for Ignacio Elementary School, two are for The Community Tree House, and the final one’s placement is yet to be decided.  All the materials have been donated by the La Plata Homebuilders Association, Alpine Lumber, Studs Lumber, and Builders FirstSource. The students involved in the project are excited for their playhouse to get used by the elementary school kids and are calling it The Bobcat Clubhouse.” This is such a wonderful example of partners coming together to support our community, many thanks to Ms. Turner and our IHS students.

Please be on the lookout for our IES Family Newsletter that will highlight all of our November and December happenings and important information about upcoming activities and events. We’re sure to have some fun photos from our Spirit Week Activities and Dress-up Days! We will share this to our families through our Dojo App as well as Facebook, so please be sure to follow us. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
