Dr. Maria Montessori believed that children have an inner directive for the self-learning and that concentration was the key to their development. At the Southern Ute Indian Montessori Acadamy, the students have three hours of open, uninterrupted time to choose independent work, become deeply engaged, and repeat their work until they have mastered it. There are no bells to signal a change in routine.

The students and teachers (guides) work in unison during the morning: sometimes individually or in small groups.  A work cycle of three hours allows the child adequate time to become involved in thier work, to observe and then become engaged in an activity.  This is part of what makes our school special.  An interruption, no matter how beneficial it to be, disturbs the growing development of the child’s concentration and focus.  Our school takes care to keep, and maintain, that three-hour uninterrupted time for learning.

 

Upcoming events:

• 3/ 9 – 12, we will be holding our annual Book Fair.
• 3/9 – PAG. Snuggle Up with a Book before PAG and get a stuffed animal (while supplies last).
• 3/11 – Bagels and Books in the dining hall from 7am – 8am. Council members will come read to students.
• 3/12 – Book Fair with food, presentations, and a bake sale from 3:30 – 6:30 pm.
• 3/13 – Council members will come enjoy lunch with students.
