The Southern Ute Police Department (SUPD) recently swore in three new patrol officers: Keleka Alualu, Khaera Chee and Adrian Wauneka. Alualu previously worked as a patrol officer for the Jicarilla Apache Nation. Chee was most recently a Detective for Gallup, N.M. Police Department. The Southern Ute Police Department (SUPD) and Southern Ute Victim Services recently sponsored a training on how to better investigate and respond to domestic violence strangulation cases. The training was conducted by Retired Military Special Agent, Russell Strand and his wife Myra Strand. Their company is Strand Squared LLC.
Mark Kempinski (left) and Chief Ray Coriz show off the certificate of promotion for Kempinski who was recently promoted to Patrol Sergeant, during a small celebration Sunday, Jan. 23, at the Southern Ute Police Dept. Kempinski started with SUPD in September of 2014. Prior, Kempinski was a Southern Ute Tribal Ranger and also worked as a Detention Officer.

New officer Trevin Joe (above), is currently in the Southern Ute Police Department’s field training program. Joe used to work with the Navajo Nation Police Dept. Joe was sworn in by Judge Whistler in October of 2019. Our field training program is approximately 14 weeks long. It runs in four phases. Joe is in his last phase of training.
All SUPD Officers and Investigators attended the training. Tribal Court staff were also in attendance. The training was held at the Southern Ute Museum on Friday, Feb.7.
