Richard Herrera, with the Southern Ute Police Department walked “victims” out of the Ignacio Middle School and proceeded to help them onto the school bus that would take them to the designated reunification area on Thursday, Aug. 22.
The Ignacio School District collaborated with the Ignacio Police Department and the Southern Ute Police Department to practice an active shooting drill Thursday, Aug. 22. The drill allowed school staff to follow and practice the proper emergency lockdown protocol and to familiarize themselves with the reunification locations near campus.
Police Department representatives from Southern Ute and Town of Ignacio, as well as Ignacio School District staff remained at “Command Center” which was based out of the Los Pinos Fire Dept. during the active shooter drill, where they were able to direct and supervise all personal on Thursday, Aug. 22.
