Eager to follow up a 68-35 trouncing of non-league local rivals Bayfield, the Lady Bobcats again took to the IHS Gymnasium court three evenings later on Friday, Jan. 29, and punctuated Winter Homecoming Week 2016 with a 60-27 drubbing of 2A/1A San Juan Basin League nemesis Dolores.
Blasting out to a 20-6 lead after just one quarter against the once-mighty Lady Bears, Ignacio overcame a much slower second to separate for good in the third – winning the stanza 17-7 and going into the fourth up 48-24 DHS reserve Teegan Hite’s three-pointer in the closing frame gave the guests eight players with points, but the shot was without any additional support while IHS coasted down the home stretch.
Lady Cat senior Ellie Seibel’s 19 points led all, and sophomore Hilda Garcia followed her 25-point effort versus the 3A Lady Wolverines with 16 against Dolores (8-6, 5-3 SJBL…but actually 7-4 against all loop foes).
Sophomore Avionne Gomez had eight points for Ignacio (9-3, 5-0), junior Alejandra Lujan had five, soph Allisianna Baker and senior Miriam Fernandez-Lopez each had four and senior Cortney Wilson-Baker two.
Fernandez-Lopez also pulled in 12 rebounds for the victors, while Seibel grabbed seven.
Freshman Tatum Majors paced the Lady Bears with six points as senior weapon Nichole Kibel was held to three. Junior Madi Archuleta had five, senior Larissa Umberger scored four and freshman Aryelle Wright three.
Up next, IHS – bumped from tenth to No. 8 in the Feb. 1 CHSAANow.com Class 2A poll – will host Ridgway Friday, Feb. 5, in a SJBL contest long delayed by weather, then entertain Ouray the following afternoon in another circuit fixture. Results from the Lady Bobcats’ 2/2 visit from Mancos were unavailable by the Drum’s deadline.

AGAINST BAYFIELD
Practically scoring two points for every one allowed, Ignacio led Bayfield 18-9 after one quarter, 37-18 at halftime and 50-24 after 24 completed regulation minutes. Putting the game emphatically away in the fourth, Garcia drained the last two of her five treys and Gomez her first two in the rout.
She would finish with 13 points (ten coming after intermission) and Seibel booked eight. Fernandez-Lopez and Lujan each netted six and senior Chrystianne Valdez five. BHS juniors Amber Johnson and Maddi Foutz led the visitors with 12 and seven points, respectively.
